Panthers Bring in Martin Havlat on Tryout

The Florida Panthers have invited veteran forward Martin Havlat to training camp on a professional tryout contract (PTO) the team announced on Friday.

Havlat has crossed the 20-goal threshold six times in his 14-year career. However, it’s been four seasons since the 34-year-old has hit that mark. In fact, he’s only crossed 10 goals once in those four seasons.

A big part of that drop has been injuries. He’s got a long list of injuries and it limited him to playing just 40 games last season, over which he scored five goals and nine assists.

That scoring decline is reflected in his even strength scoring rates, with a 1.0 P/60 last season, the lowest of his career.

In Florida, he’ll join former teammate in Newark Jaromir Jagr.

Lots of familiar names are taking PTOs this season. Keep up with all the tryout contracts with The Hockey Writers’ 2015 PTO Tracker.
