Following being cut by the Chicago Blackhawks after being invited to camp on a tryout, Daniel Paille has taken a tryout with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
Paille spent last season with the Boston Bruins and has fallen victim to a summer where it’s been almost impossible for some veterans to get a contract.
Taking a PTO with Rockford may allow Paille to find himself with the ‘Hawks later in the season. If he signs an AHL deal, it doesn’t count against the team’s maximum allowed contracts, but gives them a veteran presence they could call up and sign during the season to fill in any gaps that injury might leave them with.
A veteran of 570 NHL games, split between the Bruins and Buffalo Sabres, he’s got a Stanley Cup to his name — the kind of thing coaches tout when they sign veterans who may not contribute at previous levels.
Last year he grabbed 71 games with the Bs, posting six goals and seven assists.
The IceHogs start the 2015-16 season on October 17 against the Texas Stars.
