Derek Roy Signs With SC Bern

Former Edmonton Oilers center Derek Roy has signed a deal with the SC Bern in the NLA, the team announced on Friday.

Roy became a free agent in July, but had a tough time finding a match in the NHL. He took a tryout deal with the Washington Capitals during the summer, but was unable to parlay that into a contract.

Roy joins fellow NHLer without a job Sean Bergenheim in Bern, where Bergenheim just signed a three-year contract that contains a NHL-out clause for each summer.

Last season, Roy started with the Nashville Predators and was traded to the Oilers early in the year to help shore up their center depth. His time in Nashville was tough, scoring just a single goal and nine assists through 26 games.

Once he hit the west coast things picked up for Roy in vastly different usage, putting in 11 goals and 11 assists through 46 games.
