Ottawa Senators Select Logan Brown #11 Overall

With the eleventh pick in the 2016 NHL Draft the Ottawa Senators have selected Logan Brown from the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL

About Logan Brown

Logan Brown is 6 foot 6 and weighs 218 pounds. Size like that cannot be taught, and the skill set that Brown has isn’t indicative of his size at all. It isn’t common for large players to possess high levels of skill, but Brown could be breaking the mold for a Senators team in need of size and scoring.

What’s important to note is that despite Brown’s huge frame, he’s “not overly physical.” That isn’t to say that Brown won’t use his size to his advantage to drive plays or find open lanes, but it isn’t realistic to expect him to be a prototypical power forward. While Brown is a very solid skater, he still has room to improve in terms of quickness and speed.

How This Affects The Ottawa Senators’ Plans

Since 2013, the Ottawa Senators have drafted two centers and one defenseman in the first round in the form of Curtis Lazar, Thomas Chabot, and Colin White. The Ottawa Senators are a fairly young team in the NHL, and with the exception of some of their bigger name prospects such as Colin White, Thomas Chabot, and Nick Paul, there isn’t much to be excited about in terms of potential any time soon. Brown will join the rest of Ottawa’s prospect pool as they work on developing into the best possible player they can be before joining the Senator’s in the NHL.

Entry-level contracts are invaluable to every team in the NHL, but especially for a team that runs on a tight budget like the Senators. They clearly had Brown high on their board as they traded their own 12th overall pick along with a 3rd round draft pick to grab him ahead of the New Jersey Devils.
