The Detroit Red Wings were founded in 1926 by Charles A. Hughes as one of the NHL’s Original Six franchises and were known as the Detroit Cougars until 1930. They’ve won 11 Stanley Cups, ranking them third behind the Montreal Canadiens (24) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13), with their last Cup occurring in 2008. The Red Wings qualified for the playoffs in 25 consecutive seasons from 1990-91 through 2015-16, which is tied for the third-longest streak in NHL history.
