Lightning Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy Wins Second Vezina Trophy

For the second time in his career, Tampa Bay Lightning netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy is a Vezina Trophy winner. He was announced as the winner Saturday morning, beating out Ilya Sorokin and Jeremy Swayman for the award.

While it was considered a tight, two-goalie race during the season, the voting ended up seeing Vasilevskiy win by a substantial margin. He received 17 first-place votes out of a possible 31 and a total of 114 points. Sorokin finished second with eight first-place votes and 51 points.

Vasilevskiy won the award for the first time since 2019. It was his sixth time being a finalist, after finishing as a runner-up at the end of last season behind Connor Hellebuyck. He has received votes in seven of the last eight seasons.

He led the NHL in wins with 39. It was his ninth consecutive 30-win season, the second longest in NHL history behind Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur.

He had a .912 save percentage and a 2.31 goals-against average. Both were in the top three in the NHL. His 24.7 goals saved above expected was ranked fourth overall.

Vasilevskiy is not alone among members of the Lightning taking home some hardware. Head coach Jon Cooper won the Jack Adams Award, the award for the best head coach in a given season, for the first time in his career earlier this week. He received the award after over a decade of waiting.

Meanwhile, Anthony Cirelli finished in second place in Selke Trophy voting, the award for the forward who showed the best defensive skills. That award went to Nick Suzuki in a landslide vote.

Nikita Kucherov is a finalist for the Ted Lindsay Award and the Hart Memorial Trophy, the two MVP awards for the NHL. Those winners have yet to be announced.
