Rankings

Måns Josbrant scores goals the way few players in this Swedish draft class can, and the release is the reason scouts keep circling back. He finished 2025-26 with 17 goals and 37 points in 36 J20 Nationell games for Luleå HF, then kept filling nets every time he dropped to the under-18 level, where he scored 16 times in seven J18 Region appearances. The shot travels. The rest of the projection is where the debate starts.

Josbrant changes his shooting angle at the last instant, fires accurately from awkward body positions, and gets pucks away clean directly off the catch. On the power play, he works the right flank, the off-wing for a left shot, where his one-timer and catch-and-release punish any defender who hands him a half-step. He beat goalies clean from the right circle more than once this season by catching a strong-side feed, stepping into space, and rifling a wrister to the far corner. He hunts placement over raw power, and at this level, it fills the net.

A low center of gravity keeps him balanced through contact, his edges let him spin off checks in tight, and he can manipulate a defender with a feint or two to gain the zone. The hands show up in small areas, including a few reps where he used the end boards to pass to himself and slip a check. He’s opportunistic away from the puck, too, reading a change of possession in the neutral zone and pivoting up ice for a breakaway before his linemates had turned back the other way.

Josbrant is undersized at 5-foot-11 and lacks the strength to win consistent battles along the walls, so he loses pucks he should keep. He doesn’t drive much in transition, and the even-strength tape is far quieter than the power-play tape. Defensively, he’s a non-factor right now. At every level above this one, he’ll need linemates to carry the play and do the heavy lifting in the corners while he finds his spots to shoot.

Måns Josbrant – NHL Draft Projection

Josbrant is a late-round flier at best, and going undrafted is a real outcome. NHL Central Scouting slotted him 57th among European skaters on its final list while McKeen’s had him 283rd overall, the range you’d expect for a one-tool forward who needs a specific role to produce. The bet a team makes here is narrow: draft the shot, give it a long runway, and hope the strength and even-strength game catch up enough to let the finishing play above junior. His most realistic professional home is the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), where a top-six scoring role on the half wall fits him. The shot alone is worth a seventh-round pick.

Quotables

“A dangerous shooter with a quick wrist shot.” – Jacob Smeds, The Hockey News

“Josbrant continues to find ways to be a highlight-reel machine.” – Steven Ellis, Daily Faceoff

“Quick, accurate, and capable of surprising goaltenders with placement.” – Recruit Scouting

Strengths

  • Quick, accurate release that changes angle late and fires clean off the catch
  • Lethal off the right flank on the power play, including a heavy one-timer
  • Finds soft ice off the puck and times his routes into scoring areas
  • Balance and edgework to spin off checks and operate in tight
  • Hands to manipulate defenders and gain the zone

Under Construction – Improvements to Make

  • Added strength to win more puck battles along the walls
  • More play-driving and puck transport through the neutral zone
  • Even-strength impact to match the power-play production
  • Defensive engagement and detail away from the puck
  • A half-gear more separation speed

NHL Potential

There’s a clear NHL skill here, and it’s his shot. If everything breaks right, Josbrant becomes a complementary scoring winger who lives on the power play and finishes the chances a play-driving center creates for him. That’s the ceiling, and it’s a narrow one tied to him adding strength and a functional even-strength game. The floor is a productive Swedish pro who scores at the SHL level for a long time. Teams that value a separating offensive trait late in the draft will find one in him. Teams that need their late picks to defend and drive play will pass.

He represented Sweden at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and has worn the national team sweater at the under-16 and under-17 levels, including the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
