MasterCard Memorial Cup Final Schedule and Game Times

The Canadian Hockey League, and the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup Host Committee, announced the final schedule and game times for the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup which takes place May 19-29 in Red Deer, Alberta.

The Canadian Hockey League’s National Championship, celebrating it’s 98th anniversary this year, is a round-robin tournament that brings together the winning teams from each of the three major junior hockey leagues, Western (WHL), Ontario (OHL) and Quebec Major Junior (QMJHL), to compete with the home team of the tournament’s host city.

This year it features the host Red Deer Rebels along with the Western Hockey League champion Brandon Wheat Kings, the Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

This season marks the first time Alberta has hosted the championship since the 1974.  The Kingston Canadians and hometown Rebels have each won the Memorial Cup once, while the Huskies and Wheat Kings are looking for their first.

The action begins on Friday May 20, and continues with a game each day throughout the week, culminating with the semi-final match on Friday the 27th, and the Champion crowned on Sunday May 29th.

According to the official release from the Canadian Hockey League, “the Memorial Cup will officially be welcomed to the City of Red Deer on Thursday May 19 as part of a special Arrival of the Cup ceremony and celebration in the heart of downtown Red Deer beginning at 11:00 am.  The ceremony will serve as a tribute to our military and will allow the entire community to celebrate the start of the 10-day event.” Click here for full details.
