NHL 2025 Playoff Clinching/Elimination Scenarios – 04/06/2025

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are approaching, and teams are officially clinching playoff berths and being eliminated from contention. Here are the potential scenarios where teams can clinch or be eliminated on April 6, 2025.

Clinching Scenarios

Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals can clinch the top spot in the Metropolitan Division if:

They defeat the New York Islanders in any fashion (12:30 p.m. ET; MAX, MNMT, truTV, TNT, SN360, TVAS)

Elimination Scenarios

Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres will be eliminated from playoff contention if:

They lose to the Boston Bruins in regulation (6 p.m. ET; NESN, MSG-B)

AND

The Montreal Canadiens defeat the Nashville Predators in any fashion (7 p.m. ET; FDSNSO, TSN2, RDS)

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be eliminated from playoff contention if:

They lose to the Chicago Blackhawks in any fashion (6 p.m. ET; CHSN, SN-PIT)

OR

The Canadiens earn at least one point against the Predators
