In today’s NHL rumors rundown, the Anaheim Ducks aren’t going to be asking Ryan Getzlaf to waive his no-move clause. Does that mean a deal is out of the question? The St. Louis Blues would like to extend goaltender Jordan Binnington, but what is he worth on a long-term deal? Finally, there is trade talk surrounding the Buffalo Sabres and deals that could include both Taylor Hall and Jack Eichel.
Getzlaf Will Need to Approach Ducks About Trade
TSN’s Frank Seravalli said during the most recent TSN Insider Trading segment that if Getzlaf is looking to be traded to a contender, he’ll need to go to the Ducks and let them know he’d like a move. That’s because the organization is happy with their veteran captain and how he’s meshed with the younger players.
While Getzlaf is a pending unrestricted free agent, Seravalli notes that it’s probably more likely he stays put and remains a leader for the locker room. Apparently, there’s no plan to ask him to waive his full NMC to facilitate a trade prior to the NHL Trade Deadline.
It wasn’t revealed what an extension might look like beyond this season.
Blues Want to Extend Jordan Binnington
According to Blues insider Jeremy Rutherford, Binnington is likely to get an extension with the team, somewhere in the neighbourhood of $6M-$6.5M AAV over the next five-to-seven seasons. Rutherford cites talk from Blues GM Doug Armstrong that says Binnington has earned a long-term deal and he’s there No. 1 goalie.
Armstrong said:
“(Binnington) bet on himself, and he’s going to get paid like those guys expect to be paid and will get paid like the guys that have had success. … I think around the league, he’s looked at as a good No. 1, and that’s the way we’ll look at him as.”

Armstrong talked about how the team drafted Binnington, invested in him and his success with the organization. They also know if they let him leave, they’ll just need to replace him. The comparables for a deal are Jacob Markstrom and Matt Murray.

Sabres Could Consider Moving Jack Eichel
Sportnet’s Elliotte Friedman joined The Instigators on WGR550 in Buffalo and was asked if there was any chance Eichel could be traded by the Sabres. After all, there’s been talk about him being dealt in the past and the Sabres aren’t having a great season. The NHL insider simply stated “yes”.
Friedman adds:
They asked Eichel to take a step last year and he really did, we’ve talked about how much of a step Eichel took last year. Still, when it came to team success it just didn’t really go anywhere. Now you look at where it is this year, you know he’s going to be frustrated…
Friedman noted in the past, when the Sabres were contemplating a trade and knew Eichel was unhappy, the team talked themselves out of making a deal and weren’t ready. This, despite the fact other teams made offers. This year, they might be convinced and while Eichel hasn’t reportedly asked for a trade, opposing NHL teams are under the impression he is restless.
Friedman suggests the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings could both potentially put together packages. John Vogl of The Atheltic writes:
“the Rangers have the cap space and assets to create a blockbuster. New York’s payroll is just 27th in the league and more than $5.4 million under the limit, according to CapFriendly. There are no unrestricted free agents to re-sign and the restricted free agents won’t break the bank.”

Hall Wants to Sign Extension
TSN’s Pierre LeBrun responded to buzz that Hall might be open to a trade and that he’s one of the names to watch on this year’s trade bait board. Saying that he understands why there’s a lot of talk out there surrounding Hall potentially being moved, LeBrun shot down speculation the former Hart Trophy Winner would be traded.
LeBrun said the two sides are still very much looking to sign an extension and that has been the plan since the day he arrived. The NHL insider pointed to March 12th as the date to keep an eye on because that’s the first day the Sabres and Hall can really start talking about an extension.
