Toronto Maple Leafs Name Rookie Tournament Roster

The Toronto Maple Leafs have named the full 31-player roster for their 2016 rookie camp and tournament.

The assembled squad will compete in London, Ont. against prospect teams from the Montreal Canadiens (roster), Pittsburgh Penguins (roster) and Ottawa Senators (roster) starting on Sept. 16.

Highlighting the tournament for the Leafs will be a handful of players that should play a large part in the team’s ongoing rebuild. That includes Travis Dermott, Jeremy Bracco, Dmytro Timashov, Frederik Gauthier, Andreas Johnson and in-season acquisition from the Ottawa Senators, Tobias Lindberg. In net, Antoine Bibeau will take the lead along with University of Minnesota-Duluth standout Kasimir Kaskisuo.

The big name on the roster for Leafs fans is Mitch Marner, who should feel right at home skating in London, where he has played for the OHL’s London Knights over the last three seasons.

However, Leafs fans will have to do without watching the team’s top prospect, 2016 first overall draft pick Auston Matthews. He is not listed on the team’s prospect tournament roster.

The rookie squad will be coached by Sheldon Keefe, head coach of the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. He’ll be assisted by associate coach Gord Dineen and assistant coach A.J. MacLean.
