Jets Place Thrun & Zhilkin on Waivers

The Winnipeg Jets have placed defenseman Henry Thrun and forward Danny Zhilkin on waivers for the purpose of assigning to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Thrun was a free-agent signing this offseason and spent the majority of last season in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies, with whom he won the Calder Cup. The left hander, who stands 6-foot-2 and weights 211 pounds, posted five goals and 18 assists for 23 points in 55 games for the Marlies and two goals and seven assists for nine points in 24 Calder Cup Playoff games.

He also suited up for four games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, going pointless. He was not tendered a qualifying offer by the organization, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Zhilkin, the Jets’ 2022 third-round selection, played his first six-career NHL games last season, being held pointless. The 22 year old recorded a career-high 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points in 62 games with the Moose.

This leaves the Jets with 27 players in camp. They must cut their roster down to 23 by Monday, Sept. 28, one day ahead of the 2026-27 regular season’s opening day. The Jets’ home- and season-opener takes place Friday, Oct. 2 versus the Boston Bruins.
