Connecticut Whale Sign Quinnipiac Star Kelly Babstock

The Connecticut Whale have added one more player to their roster in advance of the NWHL’s opening night with the signing of Kelly Babstock late Tuesday night.

The Quinnipiac alum set a school record her freshman season with the Bobcats in goals, points, and game-winning goals, as well as earning ECAC Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year honors.

By the conclusion of her sophomore season, she was Quinnipiac’s all-time leader in goals, assists and points. In her senior season she was named the university’s female athlete of the year, finishing her four-year NCAA career with an impressive 95 goals and 108 assists.

She said in a statement through the NWHL:

This opportunity that the NWHL provides us women is something that has never been done before and I am ecstatic to be a part of it. Being able to play and continue my hockey career is a blessing and I am excited to get out there again… I believe I will bring a lot of energy, positivity, creativity, leadership and most of all fun to the Whale. It’s going to be an exciting experience.

Babstock is the third player from Quinnipiac to join the Whale this summer, joining goaltender Chelsea Laden and forward Shiann Darkangelo.

The NWHL’s inaugural season will kick off on October 11 with all four teams in action.
