Following a 6-1 loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins, a loss that continues to tamp down playoff hopes in Newark, coach John Hynes shared some news that will hinder the teams postseason hopes. Starting goaltender Cory Schneider will miss two weeks with a sprained MCL. At that point the team plans to have him re-evaluated.
The injury occurred in Friday’s match against the Dallas Stars while he was extending to make a save.
That’s a huge loss for the Devils at this point in the season, especially after they were sellers at the trade deadline. Schneider has had a season that should be getting him some consideration as a Vezina finalist. His .932 even strength save percentage is very strong.
So, until Schneider is re-evaluated, it will be the Keith Kinkaid show at Prudential Center. The 26-year-old has a .902 save percentage through 15 games this season.
Here’s the play where Schneider was injured.
