The Arizona Coyotes have signed defenseman Kyle Wood to a three-year, entry-level deal. General Fanager reports that the deal carries an AAV of $717,500.
Wood, an alternate captain with the OHL’s North Bay Battalion, was a 3rd round pick (84th overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2014 draft. The defenseman came into the Arizona system when the Avalanche acquired Mikkel Boedker via trade at this year’s deadline.
The 6-foot-5 defender has eight goals and 39 points through 49 games. He’s touted for his defensive game, but sees deployment that recognizes some offensive skill as well, piloting the team’s second power play unit from the point.
He and the Battalion are currently battling the Peterborough Petes in the opening round of the OHL postseason, each taking a game through the first two matches.
