Lombardi has spent the last three seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Grand Rapids Griffins. This season, he tallied 16 goals and 26 assists across 47 games. Drafted 113th overall by the Red Wings in 2022, he has yet to make his NHL debut. Since then, he’s honed his offense within the AHL, becoming a reliable, point-per-game player.

With training camp looming on the horizon, he will have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Devils’ roster. The team has been on the hunt for additional depth scoring, and Lombardi could bring value to their bottom six.
This week has already been a busy one for the Devils. On Tuesday, they sent Simon Nemec and Maxim Tsyplakov to the Calgary Flames, acquiring future conditional first-round picks and a second-round selection in this year’s draft.
General manager Sunny Mehta is expected to stay busy for the remainder of the offseason, and fans are anxiously waiting to see what the organization will do. Will they use the Devils’ recently acquired capital in a larger trade, or widen their pool of prospects at the NHL Draft later this week?
