The Connor Hellebuyck trade saga has finally reached its conclusion, with the Winnipeg Jets trading their franchise goaltender to the New Jersey Devils in a blockbuster deal. Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported Friday that New Jersey has acquired the three-time Vezina Trophy winner in exchange for a substantial package of players and draft picks.

The reported return heading to Winnipeg includes:
- Dawson Mercer – Forward
- Caleb Desnoyers Command – Prospect
- Nico Daws – Goaltender
- Nick Bjugstad – Forward
- 2029 second-round pick
- 2027 seventh-round pick
The move ends months of uncertainty surrounding Hellebuyck, who publicly requested a trade during the offseason and subsequently missed training camp, resulting in a team-imposed suspension. For New Jersey, acquiring Hellebuyck represents a significant investment in its Stanley Cup aspirations. The 33-year-old brings elite goaltending experience and a résumé that includes three Vezina Trophies and the 2025 Hart Trophy.
Hellebuyck carries an $8.5 million annual cap hit through the 2030-31 season, giving the Devils a long-term solution between the pipes. Meanwhile, Winnipeg receives a combination of established NHL talent, a young goaltender, a prospect and additional draft capital. Mercer provides the Jets with a versatile forward capable of contributing immediately, while Daws offers another option in goal as the organization transitions beyond Hellebuyck. The trade represents a significant shift for both franchises, with New Jersey strengthening its championship ambitions while Winnipeg begins a new chapter without its longtime starting goaltender.
