Mammoth Sign Anders Lee to a 3-Year Deal

The Utah Mammoth has signed winger Anders Lee to a three-year contract with an average annual value of $5.4 million, per Elliotte Friedman:

Lee, a sixth-round pick by the New York Islanders in 2009, has been a solid contributor since his first full season in 2014-15. The 35-year-old has been a solid middle-six presence, and he is expected to remain in that role with the Mammoth.

How Lee Did in 2025-26

It was status quo for Lee in 2025-26, though it was notable for one not-so-great reason. Not counting the lockout-shortened 2020-21 season in which he scored 12 goals in 27 games, Lee failed to score at least 20 goals for the first time since 2015-16. He fell just shy with 19 tallies, though he remained right in his wheelhouse from an overall production standpoint.

Lee had 42 points, falling right in the 40-50-point range that he has settled in since the 2019-20 season. It is interesting to note that Lee registered his second-lowest average time on ice (15:38) since 2016-17.

What Lee Brings to the Table

Despite being 35 years old, Lee remains a picture of consistency. At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, he has the big body to hold up against the rigors of an NHL season. He played in all but seven games for the Islanders over the past five seasons and really has never had an extended absence from the lineup.

Whether he can get back to the 20-goal, 50-point plateau remains to be seen. His role with the Islanders diminished slightly, though there is nothing to indicate that he’s running out of gas in the tank. He can play comfortably in the middle six and even play some special teams depending on the need.

How Lee Fits With the Mammoth

Lee is firmly settling into his “feisty veteran” status. At 35 years old, he isn’t being counted on as heavily as he once was. If he can get back to around 20-25 goals and 45-50 points, He would be an invaluable middle-six winger that can play a physical game and hold his own defensively.

His leadership, as demonstrated by his holding the captaincy of the Islanders since 2018-19, will be invaluable. Knowing how to navigate the ups and downs of the NHL season is something that not everyone can convey, and Lee has become one of the better leaders in the league.
