Maple Leafs Sign Jack Roslovic to 2-Year Deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Jack Roslovic to a two-year contract worth $8 million, carrying an average annual value of $4 million, according to Elliotte Friedman.

Roslovic was the 25th overall pick in the iconic 2015 NHL Entry Draft, headlined by Connor McDavid and numerous other stars in today’s NHL. After playing a season at Miami University (Ohio), he spent a season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Manitoba Moose before making his NHL debut with the Winnipeg Jets at the end of the 2016-17 season.

At the start of 2017-18, he returned to the AHL and, after posting 35 points in 32 games, became a full-time NHLer with the Jets in the back half of that season, going on to play two more seasons in Winnipeg. He then found himself with the Columbus Blue Jackets after being a part of the trade that sent Patrik Laine to the Blue Jackets and Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Jets.

He went on to play three seasons with the Blue Jackets before being traded again to the New York Rangers midway through his fourth season in Columbus. Since then, he’s gone Cup-chasing, signing back-to-back one-year deals with the Carolina Hurricanes and then the Edmonton Oilers last season.

Roslovic Contributes in Many Different Ways

The now 29-year-old is coming off back-to-back 20-goal seasons, something he had only done one other time in his career back in 2021-22, with a career high of 22, which he tied last season. Although the 32 assists in the last two seasons don’t show it, Roslovic is also a great passer, ranking well above the league average in chance assists and high-danger chance assists per 60 minutes last season (from ‘Player Cards’, All Three Zones, June 29, 2026).

With how skilled Roslovic is, a career high of 45 points back in 2021-22 feels low, but the reason for that, at least last season, could be how often he starts in transition rather than being in places to finish them.

In 2025-26, he ranked among the league leaders in retrievals leading to exits, exits with possession per 60 and exit-off-retrieval percentage. Plus, he excels at skating in the neutral zone and maintains control as he enters the offensive zone to distribute from the middle.

Maple Leafs Will Love Roslovic’s Versatility

While he never really plays heavy minutes, Roslovic usually ends up with a productive season in whatever role he plays. He’s not primarily a center, but he can step in and win faceoffs as the secondary option. He just does everything every team needs and can really play alongside and complement any player throughout the lineup without necessarily being the primary offensive option.

With the Maple Leafs quickly trying to overhaul their roster to get back in Stanley Cup contention, Roslovic will be a great pickup for their middle-six. He will provide some depth offence that the team has desperately lacked and will give them another puck handler, something else the Leafs have lacked outside of their star players. This is a sneaky good pickup at a very reasonable price.
