Nick Foligno has signed a one-year contract to remain with the Minnesota Wild, the team announced Thursday morning. The deal is worth $900,000.
Foligno Stays in Minnesota
Foligno, 38, split last season between the Chicago Blackhawks and Wild. In 54 total games, the Buffalo native scored four goals and recorded 11 assists. In six playoff games after being traded to the Wild (and joining his brother, Marcus), Foligno scored a goal and added two assists. The Foligno brothers will remain together this season, and will look to bring the Stanley Cup to the organization for the first time.
In 1,287 career games, Foligno has scored 251 goals and has recorded 612 points. In addition to the Blackhawks and Wild, he has also played for the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Boston Bruins.
Role With the Wild
With the Wild, Foligno primarily played on the fourth line as a winger. We can expect he will play a similar role. Even at 38, he still holds his own defensively and is still a physical presence in the lineup.

Furthermore, he will continue to bring leadership and playoff experience to the Wild. He was the captain of the Blue Jackets for six seasons. He also captained the Blackhawks for a season and a half. In the playoffs, he was part of the Columbus team that upset the Tampa Bay Lightning in Round 1 in 2019. In 2022-23, he was part of a Bruins team that set an NHL record for wins in a regular season.
Last Shot at Stanley?
Foligno may still be a productive player, but Father Time is undefeated. This could very well be his last chance to win the Stanley Cup.
