Frost’s Top Line Leads in 5-2 Victory Over Sceptres

The Minnesota Frost and Toronto Sceptres faced off for the sixth and final time of the regular season on Sunday afternoon, Mar. 30. It was the third time in St. Paul, Minnesota and the Frost had a 3-2 series lead. Both teams had their full roster to start the game including the Sceptres’ Sarah Nurse who had been hurt for the past few weeks and was recently activated off their LTIR.

The goaltending battle was between Nicole Hensley for the Frost and Kristen Campbell for the Sceptres but in the third the Sceptres pulled Campbell and put in Raygan Kirk. The game started out quickly with the Frost putting up two goals in the first two minutes and then they did the same in the second. The Sceptres tried to answer in the third with two goals of their own but the Frost netted one more to take the win 5-2.

Game Recap

The Frost’s Taylor Heise scored just 58 seconds into the game off of a pass from Kendall Coyne-Schofield to put their team up 1-0. Heise was assisted by Coyne-Schofield and Cava. Then Britta Curl-Salemme scored 42 seconds later to put the Frost up 2-0. She was assisted by Dominique Petrie and Denisa Křížová. That was the only scoring of the first period and the Frost took the lead into the second.

The Frost continued to add to their lead as Sophie Jaques scored early to make it 3-0. Her shot from the point made it through and Kelly Pannek and Brooke McQuigge assisted her. Their scoring didn’t end there as Liz Schepers scored late in the period to give her team a commanding 4-0 lead. Claire Thompson and Lee Stecklein assisted her. The Sceptres didn’t answer back and the Frost took the lead into intermission.

The Sceptres found some puck luck in the third as Kali Flanagan scored and took the shutout away from Hensley and made it 4-1. She was assisted by Emma Maltais and Laura Kluge. The Sceptres gained some momentum from that goal and added another a short time later. Daryl Watts tallied the Sceptres’ second goal, and she was unassisted to make it 4-2. The Frost answered back late in the period as Heise scored her second of the game, on a wrap-around. Cava and McQuigge assisted her to make it 5-2 late in the game.

The Frost and Sceptres will now have almost a month off for the Women’s World Championships, but following the break, the Frost will start at home as they host the New York Sirens in their final home game of the regular season. The Sceptres will come back and head on the road to face the Boston Fleet. Both games will be on Saturday, Apr. 26.
