Sharks Give Two Entry-Level Deals

The San Jose Sharks have signed 2015 4th round draft pick Adam Helewka and un-drafted free agent Jon Martin to entry-level contracts, the team announced this week.

Helewka, a left wing for the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL, is tied for 13th in the WHL with 34 goals in just 45 games. Despite playing just around two-thirds of the team’s games, he ranks second on the team in points with 61.

“Adam plays a smart, two-way game, with good instincts in all three zones and can finish,” said Sharks general manager Doug Wilson in the announcement.

Martin is captain of the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos and leads the team with 66 points in 60 games. He is tied for ninth in the league with 36 goals.

“Jon is a well-rounded player who brings a high skill set but also a tough, physical game.” said Wilson. “His game has really blossomed this season under Broncos General Manager and Head Coach Mark Lamb.”

As noted by Wilson, Martin had multiple NHL suitors for his entry-level deal and chose to head to the Sharks.
