Rankings
- NHL Central Scouting (Final): 8th (among NA goalies)
After being snubbed last year, Tvrznik had a strong debut season in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with struggling side Wenatchee Wild. The team ended the regular season in 11th place out of 12 in the Western Conference, yet the Czech goalie posted a solid .913 save percentage and emerged as one of the top netminders in the league.

After a strong season with the Wild, he announced to continue his development in the NCAA with Ohio State, starting from the 2027-28 campaign. This season, he was a feature for his team, and he was a finalist for the Del Wilson Memorial Trophy for the WHL’s best goalie. Tvrznik made his WHL debut on Sept. 20, recording 60 saves against the Everett Silvertips and equaling a franchise record set during the team’s inaugural 1995-96 season as the Edmonton ICE.
He then recorded his first and so far only WHL shutout Feb. 6 in a 2-0 defeat of the Victoria Royals. Moreover, he was also nominated to the inaugural WHL Top Prospects Game before being forced to miss the event due to injury. His commitment to the NCAA will give him plenty of time to develop further and should give him a good chance at making the NHL one day.
He indeed had a very good season that got the scouts’ attention. His CV is backed by solid size at 6-foot-4, 183 pounds, excellent composure, and good footwork. He should, however, work on his speed and rebound control.
Tobias Tvrznik – NHL Draft Projection
After such a strong season, it’s hard to think that Tvrznik will be snubbed again. Moreover, his commitment to NCAA hockey is a good sign of wanting his development to happen in North America, and this will, of course, be seen as an advantage over same-level, European-based netminders. He’s likely to be the first re-entry picked, and a spot as high as the fourth round should be where Tvrznik will hear his name.

Quotables
“It’s easy to like Tvrzník. He was a relatively unknown keeper playing Czech U-20 hockey last year. While his record might not be the most attractive in the WHL, he absolutely has been tremendous for the Wild. The team has struggled to win consistently but Tvrzník is often the reason why the team has managed to steal some W’s along the way. He is 3-1-1 when stopping at least 40 shots, and his 60-save performance against Everett – one of the top teams in the Dub – back in September is still one of the best goalie performances of the season. It doesn’t hurt that Tvrzník is 6-foot-4, either.” – Steven Ellis, Daily Faceoff

“Tvrznik is very effective down low, using his pads to kick the puck away when an opponent is in close, no matter what move he tries. He moves across the crease well and has a good sense of where to place himself to prevent goals off the rebound. It would be nice to see him redirect rebounds a bit better, as he often leaves the puck directly in front of him after the initial save. While it helps him keep eyes on the puck, he arguably has to work harder than necessary to keep the puck out.” – Dayton Reimer, The Hockey Writers
Strengths
- Good size to start with
- Excellent composure and ability to play under pressure
- Good athleticism
- Has shown some good skating abilities
Under Construction/ Improvements to Make
- Needs to improve his rebound control
- Speed and mobility are something he can improve
NHL Potential
Tvrznik showed NHL potential this season with the Wild, but he will need to work hard to translate this early success into something more concrete at the pro level. He’s committed to the NCAA, and this is a good sign that the goalie wants to develop in an environment that NHL teams will like, and this may help him in eventually getting a chance later in his career.
