Forward Jaden Schwartz has signed a 3-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche, according to Darren Dreger. The contract is worth $3.25 million per season.
Schwartz Joins Colorado After Stint in Seattle
Schwartz spent the last five seasons with the Seattle Kraken. He was one of the first big contracts the Kraken signed in the summer of 2021 ahead of their inaugural season. In 301 games, he scored 79 goals, including 26 in 2024-25.

Schwartz was limited to 50 games last season due to various injuries, including a scary one that ended his season. In early March, his face was cut by Nick Cousins’ skate when Cousins was checked into the boards.
He leaves with fond memories of the organization. In addition to being an original Kraken, he scored the team’s first home playoff goal in franchise history.
“I love it here in Seattle. Really grateful and thankful that I got the opportunity to come here. I’ve really enjoyed my time, met some amazing people, great teammates.”
Role With the Avalanche
Schwartz still has offensive value, but the key to success will be staying healthy. He has only appeared in 75 games in four seasons. There is no denying his talent, but availability has been his biggest issue. If he can stay on the ice, Schwartz can slot into the top nine and on the power play. He can also score roughly 20 goals and 50 points when healthy.
Schwartz’s Career So Far
Before signing with the Kraken, Schwartz spent 10 seasons with the St. Louis Blues. In 560 games wearing the Blue Note, he scored 154 goals. During the team’s run to the Stanley Cup in 2019, he scored 12 goals in 26 games, including two hat tricks. In Game 5 of Round 1 against the Winnipeg Jets, he scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds left in regulation.
Since the 2014-15 season, Schwartz has worn #17 to honor his late sister, Mandi, who passed away from leukemia in 2011.
