The New York Islanders have selected centre Mathew Barzal of the Seattle Thunderbirds with the sixteenth overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
The talented youngster is considered by many to be one of the best two-way players in this year’s draft. The Coquitlam, BC native the is coming off a season in which he played just 44 games but still managed to put together a 57-point campaign. At 5’11” and 175 pounds, Barzal is small in stature but many believe he is the wave of the future when it comes to NHL players

In addition to the sixteenth overall pick, Edmonton also sent their second round pick to the Isles in exchange for the fourth overall pick of the 2012 Entry Draft in defencman Griffin Reinhart.
While the Oilers were lucky enough to have Connor McDavid fall into their lap courtesy of the Draft Lottery, they were scheduled to make four selections during the first two rounds, with additional picks at No. 16, No. 33 and No. 57.
