Canadiens Bring John Scott Back to NHL

It’s been a strange year for John Scott. He’s been a part of an unexpected campaign to send a pugilist to the All-Star game, and it worked. Then he was traded from Arizona to Montreal, in a move that drew plenty of criticism. Then he thrived in the All-Star Game, getting named the legitimate MVP of the All-Star Game. Then his wife had twins.

Since then, he’s been playing in the AHL for the St. John’s IceCaps. But he’ll get another crack at NHL time this season. The Montreal Canadiens have recalled Scott to the NHL, the team announced Sunday. In a corresponding move, the team is sending Michael McCarron down to the IceCaps.

The 2016 All-Star Game MVP could be wearing a Canadiens jersey for the first time in his career as soon as Tuesday’s game against the playoff-bound Florida Panthers.

In 27 games with the IceCaps Scott has posted two goals and four points, including a goal in his first game with the team, which immediately followed the All-Star Game.

This was kind of the last opportunity for Scott to find his way into a NHL game this season. Not only are there hardly any games left, the Canadiens have used their last allowable recall on Scott (outside of emergency recalls).

Additionally, they have used an emergency recall to bring Ryan Johnston up along with Scott.
