Flyers Re-Sign Jordan Weal for One Year

The Philadelphia Flyers have re-signed restricted free agent Jordan Weal to a one-year, two-way contract, according to multiple reports.

The deal will pay the 24-year-old forward $650,000 in the NHL and $200,000 in the AHL with a guaranteed salary of $250,000.

Weal was traded from the Los Angeles Kings to the Philadelphia Flyers in January along with a third-round draft pick in exchange for Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn.

He skated in 14 NHL games last season, 10 with the Kings and four with the Flyers. He didn’t score any points.

In 221 AHL games, Jordan Weal has posted 173 points and is a plus-47 player. The 5-foot-9, 179-pound forward uses his speed and offensive vision to his advantage. He’s a crafty playmaker, posting 47 assists in 2013-14 and 49 assists in 2014-15 in the AHL, respectively.

Weal will likely start the 2016-17 season with Philadelphia’s AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Weal broke out in the Western Hockey League as an 18-year-old in 2009-10 when he racked up 102 points in 72 games with the Regina Pats. He followed that up with 96 points in 2010-11 and 116 points in 2011-12, respectively. He was drafted with the 70th overall pick by the Kings in 2010.
