The San Jose Sharks have gotten off to a hot start to the 2015-16 season, but with any good news comes something pretty bad. This bad news involves one of the Sharks top players.
San Jose has announced that Logan Couture will miss the next 4-6 weeks after suffering a broken leg during the team’s practice on Thursday. The break resulted in Couture needing surgery to repair the damage done.
On Thursday he was seen leaving the arena on crutches, leading to the speculation that something long-term had occurred during the practice.
The loss of one of the team’s alternate captains can’t be understated. Couture was second on the Sharks in both goals (27) and points (67) last season. Losing him means the Sharks will be without one of their top scorers for up to 20-plus games. Based on the announced length, Couture could return at some point in late November.
To fill his roster spot, San Jose has recalled 2014 first-round pick Nikolay Goldobin from AHL San Jose. The 20-year old Goldobin is in his full season in the professional ranks after closing the 2014-15 season in Worcester with San Jose’s AHL franchise.
In 10 AHL games, Goldobin has three goals and two assists, all of which came in nine games last year. He had played just one game with the Barracuda this year.
