Predators Sign Alex Kerfoot to 2-Year Contract With $3.5 Million AAV

The Nashville Predators have signed veteran center Alex Kerfoot to a two-year deal with a $3.5 million average annual value, as per Darren Dreger.

Kerfoot Will Look For Bounceback in Music City

The 31-year-old left shooter spent the past two season with the Utah Hockey Club/Utah Mammoth, moving with the franchise after playing one year of a two-year deal he signed with the Arizona Coyotes.

Last season, on a one-year deal worth $3 million, he was limited to 34 games due to requiring a procedure to repair a core-muscle injury in October. After returning to the lineup, he posted seven goals and six assists for 13 points while serving as an alternate captain.

Despite the down season, the Vancouver product has a good track record of middle-six offensive production the Predators hope will continue: He has recorded 105 goals and 200 assists for 305 points in 639-career games between Utah, the Coyotes, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Colorado Avalanche, and has six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 54-career playoff games.

His best season came in 2021-22 with the Maple Leafs, where he posted 51 points (13 goals, 38 assists) in 82 games. He was originally drafted in the fifth round (150th overall) by the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, but didn’t play any games for that franchise.

Kerfoot lacks size at 5-foot-10 but has “sound skills in all three zones, a good hockey IQ and the versatility to play anywhere up front (and in all game situations),” a Sports Forecaster scouting report reads. “His playmaking skills are solid, and he is enough of a shooter that opponents cannot lay off of him and jam the passing lanes.”

Predators Looking to Get Back Into Playoffs

Kerfoot joins a Predators squad that has missed the playoffs for the past two seasons and has not advanced past the first round since 2017-18. Despite not making the playoffs last season, the Predators improved by 18 points from 2024-25 and still have $11 million in cap space to improve their team further and get back to competitiveness, as per PuckPedia.
