Rankings

Oliver Suvanto is a huge, young center. At 17, he’s one of the youngest skaters eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft. At Liiga, he’s part of a rare breed of skaters who skipped Tappara U-20 to play in Liiga full-time. He has the talent for it. His combination of size, speed, and resiliency on his feet could make him an elite two-way center in the NHL.

The biggest strength is his movement. Of course, he’s big and strong, but he’s also able to move with the ease of a smaller winger in tight areas. He has a great feel for where his linemates are, great puck control, and he absorbs pressure from defenders extremely well. He’s a great skater for a player his size, and he has a great sense of positioning.

Suvanto is comparable to Florida Panthers center Anton Lundell. The 6-foot-1, 196-pound center is a few pounds lighter than Suvanto, but Lundell plays a similar game to the one Suvanto is projecting. Lundell is a demon in his own zone, with a positive plus/minus in every season but this past one. Both play well in structure in their own zone. Suvanto should be very good in faceoffs, too, similar to Lundell.

Awards and Achievements

Suvanto is one of the few skaters to advance to Liiga before turning 17, alongside Aleksander Barkov, Laine, and Kaapo Kakko. He won a bronze medal in the Winter Youth Olympics and represented Team Finland at the 2025 Hlinsky-Gretzky Cup, where they finished fourth.
