Canadiens’ Blown Leads Are Becoming a Concerning Early-Season Trend

Canadiens’ Blown Leads Are Becoming a Concerning Early-Season Trend

The Montreal Canadiens were one of the NHL’s most resilient teams last season, regularly finding ways to battle back from deficits and steal games that appeared to be slipping away. Their ability to stay competitive regardless of the score was a major reason behind their success. However, through the early stages of the 2026-27 season, the Canadiens have seemingly flipped the script, and not in a good way. Instead of being the team that comes from behind, Montreal has repeatedly been the one allowing opponents to climb back into games. While the Canadiens have still managed to collect points in some of those contests, their inability to protect leads is quickly becoming a concerning trend that needs to be addressed. Canadiens Have Already Blown Several Leads It is one thing to lose a game after being outplayed from start to finish, but it is another to consistently put yourself in a position to win and fail to finish the job. Unfortunately, the Canadiens have already experienced the latter on several occasions this season. Against the San Jose Sharks, Montreal built a comfortable 3-1 lead before allowing its opponent to battle back and eventually win in overtime. What appeared to be a solid performance turned into a disappointing result, with the Canadiens leaving an important point on the table. A similar scenario unfolded against the Buffalo Sabres, not once but twice. In both meetings, Montreal held a 3-1 advantage before allowing Buffalo to erase the deficit. Fortunately for the Canadiens, they managed to salvage both contests, winning one in overtime and the other in a shootout. However, the fact that Montreal needed extra time to secure victories in games it had seemingly under control remains troubling. They also let a divisional opponent get points after leading both games by two…
