Sharks Sign Eric Comrie to 2-Year Contract

The San Jose Sharks have signed goaltender Eric Comrie to a two-year deal with a $1.15 million annual average value.

Comrie Leaves Winnipeg… Again

Comrie made a career-high 25 appearances and 24 starts last season for the Winnipeg Jets on the second-year of a two-year deal, mainly due to Connor Hellebuyck being out for nearly a month from late November to mid-December after arthroscopic knee surgery.

Unfortunately, when handed a huge opportunity to help the Jets through a difficult stretch, he was nothing short of disastrous and overwhelmed by the workload, posting an ugly a 2-7-1 record, 3.71 goals against average (GAA), .874 save percentage (SV%), a negative-7.02 goals saved above expected, and being pulled twice.

Comrie regrouped nicely in the second half, winning six-straight starts after an awful New Years’ Day performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs and did not allow more than two goals in any of those starts (he lost his final two starts, which came after the Jets were eliminated from playoff contention). Overall, his numbers — like many Jets last season — fell off as he posted a 3.13 GAA and .890 SV% opposed to a 2.39 GAA and .914 SV% from 2024-25 (in fairness, the Jets’ defensive structure was much better in 2024-25 than in 2025-26).

The soon-to-be 31 year old was originally drafted by the Jets in the second round (59th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and has been well traveled in his career. In 102-career games and 97-career starts between the Jets (over three separate stints), the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, and Detroit Red Wings, he has 45-47-4 record, 3.11 GAA, .896 SV%, and four shutouts.

Comrie Joins Up-and-Coming Sharks Squad in Need of Goaltending

The Jets signing Stuart Skinner earlier in the day pretty much guaranteed Comrie’s departure. He will join an up-and-coming Sharks squad that has a boatload of young talent up front and improved by 34 points last season from 2024-25 when they finished dead last in the NHL, but did not have very strong goaltending.

Expect Comrie to battle for time in the crease with Yaroslav Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic, who split time for the Sharks last season and posted numbers similar or worse than Comrie’s.

Sharks general manager Mike Grier has been active to open free agency. Earlier in the day, he signed forward Mason Marchment to a five-year deal and signed defenseman Jacob Trouba to a four-year deal.
