Toronto Sceptres Defender Savannah Harmon Announces Her Retirement

On Thursday, Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) defender Savannah Harmon announced she is retiring from professional hockey at 30, as kind messages and well-wishes poured in from pillars around the league. She has been in the league since its inaugural season in 2024 and turned pro in 2015 with the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women’s Hockey League, the first women’s league to pay its players a base salary.

Harmon began her collegiate career at Clarkson University and stayed for all four of her collegiate years, serving as captain in her junior and senior seasons. She played 160 games and recorded 113 points. She also helped Team USA win two gold medals and three silver medals in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship and a silver medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. 

In 2024, Harmon was selected fifth overall by Ottawa in the inaugural PWHL Draft. She played all 24 games and recorded 12 points, a career high. She played six games with the Ottawa Charge in 2024-25 before being traded, along with Hayley Scamurra, to the Toronto Sceptres on Dec. 20. In exchange, Ottawa received Victoria Bach and Jocelyne Larocque. Bach retired in June 2025. 

Harmon finished the season with the Sceptres, playing 24 games with six assists. She remained with the team this season, playing all 30 games and recording six points via two goals and four assists. Harmon never missed a game in her PWHL career, playing 84 games, and she was an asset to any blue line she was part of.
