Wake Me Up When The Lockout Ends

Let us all hope the lockout does not last this long for everyone’s sake.  (File Photo/Flickr)

It was not easy when thinking about how to do a parody like this at first. Then, as always, something hits and the pilot light ignites. Honestly, no one even wished it got to this stage but it has ladies and gentlemen. Sometimes the only way to approach a stalemate is to laugh. Thanks to George Carlin and especially the band, Green Day, for the idea here. Hum the song and it is awfully close if not very accurate for the most part. Here it goes as we replaced “September” with “the lockout”. All it took were some well placed words to change the meaning of “Wake Me Up When September Ends” completely.

Wake Me Up When The Lockout Ends

Summer has come and passed
so the fans can never last
wake me up when the lockout ends

like the last lockout come to pass
oh eight years has gone so fast
wake me up when the lockout ends

here comes the doom again
falling from the stalemate
drenched in our gloom again
becoming who we hate.

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when the lockout ends

summer has come and passed
so the fans can never last
wake me up when the lockout ends

Bettman and Fehr once again
like we feared when Fall began
wake me up when the lockout ends

here comes the tears again
falling from the fans
drenched in our pain again
written in Comic Sans.

as our memory rests
but never forgets what we lost
wake me up when the lockout ends

Summer has come and passed
So the fans can never last
wake me up when the lockout ends

like the last lockout come to pass
oh eight years has gone so fast
wake me up when the lockout ends
wake me up when the lockout ends
wake me up when the lockout ends

The strangest thing is there were several suggestions before settling on this song. As a matter of fact, the next parody may just be (Time Of Your Life/Good Riddance). Right now it seemed the best idea to go with something that was simple, effective, and to the point. Hopefully something comes of the next few days or weeks with the CBA but I do not think anyone is really holding their breath right now.

At this time, the NHL and NHLPA are where they are. Again there is nothing anyone can do but maybe this strikes a chord with everyone and at least makes them chuckle a bit also.
