Wyatt Johnston Nets Hat Trick in Stars’ 6-3 Win Over Blues

The Dallas Stars (39-19-2) continued their winning ways on Sunday night, as they defeated the St. Louis Blues (29-27-6) 6-3 at American Airlines Center. With the win, the Stars swept their season series with the Blues, winning all three matches this season. Mason Marchment, Matt Duchene, Wyatt Johnston, and Roope Hintz all scored for the Stars. Jake Oettinger made 39 saves in the win.

Zack Bolduc, Dylan Holloway, and Nathan Walker were the goalscorers for St. Louis. Joel Hofer made six saves, and Jordan Binnington made nine.

Marchment kicked off a wild first period at 1:56 on the power play, with a wrist shot over Hofer’s blocker from the right circle for his 15th of the season. Bolduc evened the game at 1-1 at 3:22, pouncing on a rebound in front of Oettinger.

Duchene restored the Stars’ lead at 13:28, with a one-timer from the right circle. That goal was his 25th of the season and his 11th point in the last six games. The 2-1 lead lasted for barely five minutes, as Holloway evened up the score on the power play at 18:34,

Johnston scored the second power-play goal of the night for the Stars with 1.3 seconds left in the first period, off a pass by Hintz. For Johnston, his home point streak is now 12 games.

With Binnington replacing Hofer at the start of the period, Hintz scored a goal of his own one minute into the second frame, capping off a give-and-go with Jason Robertson.

The Blues again brought the score to within one as Walker hit a puck in the air after a blocker save by Oettinger.

At 9:14 of the third period, on their third power play of the game, the Stars scored their third power-play goal of the game, as Johnston scored his second of the night on an around-the-horn passing play, ending with him shooting into a wide-open net. He kept his hot night going at 11:11, as he scored his third of the night and the Stars’ fourth goal with the man advantage.

The Blues outshot the Stars 42-21 and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Stars were a perfect 4-for-4 with the man advantage.

The Blues will have a few nights off before heading to Los Angeles on Wednesday to take on the Kings. The Stars are back in action on Tuesday when they host the New Jersey Devils.
