Sam Gagner Suffered a Concussion, on IR

Sam Gagner took a hard fall that resulted in a gash over his eye on November 23 in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes. It was hard enough of a fall that the team sent him to the hospital and had him go through concussion protocol.

It turns out, the winger suffered more than just a cut, he also suffered his first concussion in the NHL, he told reporters on Tuesday.

The team had initially ruled him out for a week with an upper body injury, but the effects must be lingering, because the team placed Gagner on injured reserve to make room for defenseman Andrew MacDonald to join the team, according to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Gagner is currently skating, but not ready for game action.

Through 18 games this season, his first with the Flyers, Gagner has two goals and three assists. Last season he put up 15 goals and 26 assists through 81 games with the Arizona Coyotes.
