Vancouver Loses Alex Edler, Brandon Sutter

Just as the Vancouver Canucks were getting healthy, they’ve lost two top players for a while. Defenseman Alex Edler will miss six weeks and forward Brandon Sutter will miss six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a broken jaw suffered in Tuesday’s game.

Edler’s injury also came in Tuesday’s game, when he took a took a slapshot off the foot.

The Canucks have battled through a lot of injuries this season and it’s something coach Willie Desjardins had to address with media on Friday. “It’s not like it’s the first time we’ve had injuries and nobody’s had that opportunity. Saying that, those are two guys that we’ll miss,” he said.

One of those injuries they fought through was a sports hernia to Sutter, who missed 33 games with the injury. He had been back in the lineup for four games prior to being hit in the face with a puck Tuesday.
