Sabres Weekly: Devon Levi Trade Rumors, Helenius Scores Golden Goal & More

Here is the Buffalo Sabres weekly news, rumors and reports circulating for June 1 – June 7, 2026.

Konsta Helenius Will Be a Star

The Sabres drafted Konsta Helenius 14th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, which seemed like a steal at the time, but two years later, he is well on his way to becoming a superstar.

Helenius gained valuable playoff experience in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring two goals in four games. On Sunday, he delivered the Golden Goal for Finland, a 1-0 overtime win over Switzerland, at the World Championships, securing the nation’s first‑ever gold medal in the tournament. Helenius will look to become a full‑time NHLer next season.

Sabres Sign Jake Richards To Entry-Level Contract

The Sabres drafted Jake Richards in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft out of the United States Hockey League (USHL). He has played college hockey at the University of Connecticut for the last three seasons. Over that span, he has recorded 88 points in 108 games.

Devon Levi Could Be Traded This Summer

The Sabres acquired Devon Levi in a 2021 trade that sent Sam Reinhart to the Florida Panthers. When he arrived in Buffalo, Levi was expected to be the goaltender of the future; however, things have not panned out as hoped.

He has not played a game since the 2024–25 season, spending all of this season with the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans, posting a 2.83 goals‑against average (GAA) and a .904 save percentage (SV%). In his NHL career, he has appeared in 39 games, recording a 3.29 GAA and a .894 SV%.

Given how well Ukko‑Pekka Luukkonen and Alex Lyon performed as a tandem this season and in the playoffs, there is speculation that the Sabres could look to trade Levi for immediate NHL roster help.
