Marc-Andre Bergeron (born October 13, 1980) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL split with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Carolina Hurricanes during the 2012-13 season. Undrafted at the NHL level, Bergeron broke into the league during the 2002-03 season with the Edmonton Oilers, playing in four seasons and establishing himself as an offensive defenseman with a bullet for a shot. During the 2005-06 season, Bergeron set a career-high in goals (15) and points (35) in 75 games. The following season, he was traded to the New York Islanders.
Bergeron became somewhat of a journeyman in the final six years of his time in the NHL, playing short stints with the Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Lightning, and Hurricanes. Despite his ability to put up points, Bergeron left the NHL to continue pursuing his hockey career in Switzerland, playing for the ZSC Lions of the National League (NL). Bergeron returned to North America for one final season, playing for the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters, amassing 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists) in 22 games. Bergeron announced his retirement at the conclusion of the season.
Currently, Bergeron serves as the general manager of the ECHL’s Trois-Rivières Lions, and has also formed a partnership with NASCAR driver Louis-Philippe Dumoulin in 2009. The team has won championships in 2014 and 2018, with Dumoulin driving under the number 47, Bergeron’s playing number.
