Latest Rumors:
- The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to add a winger at the deadline.
We’re open to looking at ways to strengthen our team and that could be through (adding) a forward or a defenseman,” Bowman said. “I think we’re pretty strong up the middle, so I think if anything we’re probably looking for a winger more so than a centerman up front.
- The Washington Capitals may be trying to add a defenseman at the deadline to solidify their cup run.
Once veteran blueliner Brooks Orpik is taken off of long-term injury reserve, the Capitals will have around $1.15 million in available salary cap space to play with.
- Despite being in the playoff race, the Carolina Hurricanes may be best served trading away Eric Staal and Cam Ward.
It’s hard to imagine Staal and the Hurricanes finding common ground on a new contract that makes sense for both sides, which would inevitably require a severe pay cut for the Hurricanes’ captain. A similar equation holds true for Ward, whose trade availability is complicated by the left leg injury he suffered Saturday night.
- Clarke MacArthur is hoping to return to the Ottawa Senators lineup by early March.
“That’s the next talk,” he said. “I want to be ready for that (early) March time frame. That’s my personal goal. But if we’re out of it, is it worth it? I don’t know. We’ll see what the boss says about that and go from there.”
- Despite coming out and saying Steven Stamkos won’t be traded, the Lightning and Stamkos are no closer to a contract extension.
It feels like Yzerman is putting out a fire started by Stamkos and Stamkos’ agent, Don Meehan. It sounds like Yzerman is trying to take heat off Stamkos. It sounds like Yzerman is the general manager of a team fighting for its playoff life and the last thing he wants is his captain and best player spending half his time bombarded with questions and texts asking him about dollars and cents instead of goals and assists.
