While the Windsor Spitfires earned a 5-2 road win over the Sudbury Wolves on Friday night, three players also hit important milestones.
Coming into the 2025-26 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season, the Spitfires knew they had a veteran squad that could make a run at the West Division and Western Conference regular-season titles. Led by captain Liam Greentree (New York Rangers), they have talent throughout the lineup to go far in the playoffs. With that talent comes potential milestones, and three players hit big career markers during Friday’s game. Let’s take a look.
Costanzo Hits 100-Win Mark
One of the biggest pieces to the Spifires’ puzzle this season has been goaltender Joey Costanzo. The 20-year-old has been a rock in goal through 36 appearances, sitting second in the OHL with a 2.11 goals-against average and ninth with a .911 save percentage. Both are career highs for him. He’s also third in the league with 27 wins, and that’s where the milestone comes into play.

Costanzo came to the Spitfires from the Niagara IceDogs in September 2022. While he had five wins with the IceDogs, his career really got going with the Spitfires. He had 26 wins for them in 2022-23, then another 10 in a rebuilding (and frustrating) 2023-24 season. However, he rebounded with a dynamite 32-win campaign last season. Earlier this season, he won his 87th game, which beat the previous franchise record set by former star goaltender Michael DiPietro (86 from 2015-18). All eyes were on the century mark.
Fortunately, thanks to several big saves and stellar defence in front of him, he earned his 100th win against the Wolves on Friday. He becomes the seventh goaltender in OHL history to reach that mark, joining names such as Adam Dennis. J.P. Anderson and Kyle Gajewski. Anderson leads all goaltenders with 126 wins.
While wins are often a team stat, there’s little doubt that Costanzo’s had a huge impact on this club. Without him, they’re not likely fighting for the top seed this season.
Villeneuve Reaches 200 Points
For much of his OHL career, forward Nathan Villeneuve has been known as an offensive, gritty veteran who could do a little bit of everything. The 19-year-old Seattle Kraken prospect did it all for the Wolves for three-and-a-half seasons before being traded to the Spitfires at the trade deadline.

While he’s not focused on points, he’s kept his offence flowing since the move. On Friday, he gave Greentree a solid pass on the power play, who then put it home. Not only did it help the club en route to the win, but it gave Villeneuve 200 points in his OHL career. He also now has 59 points in 40 games this season, including 15 points in 12 games with the Spitfires.

He added another point later in the game to reach 201 points. He’s now just nine behind Spitfires’ great Matthew Maggio (210 – New York Islanders). His two-point night also extended both his point streak and assist streak to eight games each (two goals and 10 assists).
Greentree Surpasses 300-Point Milestone
For the last four seasons, Greentree has been a symbol of consistency for the Spitfires. Their 2022 second-round pick made his mark early and hasn’t looked back. After 90 points in 64 games in 2023-24, he exploded for 119 points in 64 games last season. There was anticipation waiting for the Los Angeles Kings to return him from camp in October to see how many milestones he could hit this season.
In January, he surpassed long-time Spitfires’ great Blair Barnes for third all-time in goals with 128. He’s also now tied for fifth with Joel Quenneville for fifth all-time with 168 assists. However, there was still a big one on the horizon – 300 points.
Thanks to the Villeneuve pass on the power play, Greentree used a one-timer to give his club the 1-0 lead and give him the elite 300-point mark (through 225 games). He becomes just the third Spitfire to reach that total behind defenceman Ryan Ellis (314 – 2007-11) and current general manager Bill Bowler (467 – 1991-95). It’s a massive feat and, if all goes well, he definitely has a chance to get into that impressive two slot.

According to the OHL release, he’s the current active league leader in career goals and points and is one of only three active players with 100 goals and 100 assists. He’s also among an elite group of “most points in the OHL since 2015-16” that includes Nick Suzuki (328), Jason Robertson (317), and Morgan Frost (310).
This milestone comes less than 48-hours after the Kings traded Greentree to the Rangers in a deal for Artemi Panarin, too. While the youngster likely has a lot on his mind, getting this number out of the way as the club marches towards the playoffs is a big deal.
With the win, the Spitfires officially clinch a playoff spot. Now, the club has Saturday off and will head to Sault Ste. Marie to face the Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon.
