Friday night, the New York Rangers were losing to the division rival Columbus Blue Jackets with under four minutes left in the game. It was an ideal situation for the Blue Jackets, with the team’s major offseason acquisition Brandon Saad grabbing a goal in his regular season debut with the team.
But it wasn’t to be. Rangers rookie Oscar Lindberg, Kevin Hayes and Mats Zuccarello are scored in a 77-second span to put the Rangers up 4-2 with not enough time to play for a reeling Columbus team to recover.
Lindberg’s goal was the 23-year-old forward’s second goal through two games this season (he’s played three career games), Hayes scored from an impossible angle and Zuccarello put in the clincher off a bad turnover from Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen.
