Carolina Hurricanes

Comparing Differing Success: Vancouver and Carolina

Who could ever fault a team for squeaking into the playoffs and making the best of their situation? How could you justify knocking a team who seized an opportunity for their franchise and won the Stanley Cup in a complete surprise? I don’t think you could find a hockey fan that would deny those are ...

Putting a Cap On The Carolina Hurricanes Season

If your team didn’t make the playoffs this year, every cap to the season will start by saying it was a disappointing season. It was. There were expectations, there was hype, there was a blockbuster trade; that doesn’t secure wins. More often than not, blockbuster trades don’t live up to their expectations. Fans and analysts ...

If The 2013 Carolina Hurricanes Were An Episode of The Office

Sometimes things don’t always work out the way you wanted them to. Sometimes things don’t work out the way they were supposed to, or the way 99% of NHL fans predicted. Case and point: the 2012-13 Carolina Hurricanes. Fresh new season for Head Coach Kirk Muller to work with, a couple new studs working up front ...

Carolina Hurricanes: Upcoming Week is Make or Break

The Carolina Hurricanes started off the season stronger than anyone expected, taking control of the Southeast Division for a long period of time.

Alex Semin was having a comeback season creating one of the top lines in the Eastern Conference with Eric Staal and Jiri Tlusty. The acquisition of Jordan Staal looked brilliant as he created secondary scoring with line mate Jeff Skinner. Cam Ward was also playing well in goal earning wins to cement the Hurricanes as playoff favorites.

But in the past month, the tracks have fallen off for the Hurricanes, who currently sit at 13th in the Eastern Conference and have been taken over by both the Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals in the Southeast.

Carolina Hurricanes: Injuries Taking Their Toll

It was a simple icing touch up. One that happens close to 10 times a game, but this one went so horribly wrong for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Defenseman Joni Pitkanen was in a race with the Washington Capital’s Troy Brouwer, in a close 4-3 game, to touch the puck first. Brouwer got his stick caught in the Finnish defenseman’s skates and while most likely not on purpose, it caused Pitkanen to go awkwardly into the end boards.

The next moments featured Pitkanen writhing in pain on the ice before a stretcher had to be brought out to take him into the dressing room.
