Possible Destinations for Brian Elliott: Western Conference

Heading into the shortened 2012-13 season, the Blues were expected to fare well with their solid goaltending duo of Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott.  After posting 15 combined shutouts in 2011-12, Halak and Elliott looked to dominate the Western Conference yet again. Unfortunately for them, the season has not gone in their favor. After the ...

Shot Down in the Desert, Columbus Loses to Phoenix Coyotes

A straight-faced monotoned Dave Tippett took the podium in the Phoenix Coyotes’ media room to answer questions after the Coyotes’ 5-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday night. The win would mark the Coyotes’ first of the season after dropping both the season opener and home opener to the Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks ...

Top 5 Best Free Agent Signings of 2011

With the NHL free-agency period fast approaching, the talk of the NHL is set to where the big name free-agents will end up.  Ryan Suter, Zach Parise and Alexander Semin are just a few of the names that are being floated around every NHL city. Sometimes, the best free-agent signings may not even be one ...

Phoenix Rising: Five Thoughts On the Coyotes’ Road Trip

Jim Neveau, Senior NHL Correspondent After starting this season out with consecutive losses to the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars, the Phoenix Coyotes were trending toward becoming what just about every hockey pundit had predicted them to be: a bottom-dweller with little hope either in the standings or to stay in the desert past ...

Overrating the 2011 NHL Free Agent Class

On Monday, the Florida Panthers acquired the negotiating rights of soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Tomas Kopecky from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a conditional draft pick. By Wednesday, the Panthers had signed Kopecky to a four-year, $12 million deal paying the left-winger $3 million annually after his career year of 15 goals and 42 points (with a -13!) in 2010-11 with Chicago. Don’t laugh just yet—it gets better.

Late Wednesday night, the rights of Steve Montador, another upcoming UFA, were traded to Chicago from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2012 seventh round draft pick. What kind of a bizarro world have we entered where Montador is actually a hot commodity prior to free agency frenzy that comes on July 1?

Why Jason LaBarbera Should Start in Net

On Wednesday night, the Phoenix Coyotes came off a strong 2-1 win over the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks. In large part, the Coyotes win was due to a solid effort from their backup goaltender, Jason LaBarbera.

LaBarbera stopped 33 of 34 shots in the victory and was named the game’s 1st star. In fact, LaBarbera has never lost against the Blackhawks — he has four victories in four career games versus Chicago.

Personally, I think he should get the start in net again tonight.

Phoenix Coyotes on the Ice Edge of a Double Elimination

The Phoenix Coyotes have been on a roller coaster ride all year long. On May 5th of last year, the Coyotes (under then owner Jerry Moyes) filed for Bankruptcy. Since that time, the Coyotes have undergone multiple effects of this financial uncertainty. The team was involved in an anti-trust lawsuit involving a battle over ownership ...
